Blind Rottie Needs Help and a Home (Maryland)

UPDATE 30 October 2006!
Cylburn not only got enough money to undergo his surgery, but he also found his forever home! No longer will he be in pain, he'll feel only love in his new adopted home. Way to go Cylburn!

Cylburn came into rescue because he was lost & wandering the streets, he had no collar or tags and could not see to come to anyone. A very kind man used the only thing he had, an IV tube (he works in a hospital) as a collar and leash in order to keep him safe, he then called Susan (a Rescue Angel) and she took him straight to her Vet.

Cylburn is approximately 8 months to a year old, 54lbs. and is the sweetest Puppy in the world!!! Cylburn is completely healthy, fully vaccinated, and is neutered. He is potty-trained and knows all his basic commands! All he wants to do is love and please you! Cylburn also LOVES all other animals!

Cylburn has a congenital eye problem which is causing pressure in his head and the blindness. Dr. Isherwood examined Cylburn and said he is in a great deal of pain and his eyes need to be removed. Cylburn is the sweetest little Boy ever, everyone at Advanced Veterinary Complex just love him to pieces. Cylburn loves to give kisses and hugs and likes to be snuggled. Cylburn is very intelligent and is starting to use his paw as his guide, he puts his paw ahead of him to feel what is in front of him like you would do with a cane, he also recognizes voices very quickly. Cylburn just loves everyone especially other animals, he was somewhat playing with a dog the other day when Susan took him for a walk during her visit, it was adorable.

Cylburn is such a happy Boy, even though poor Cylburn is blind. Cylburn is a great dog and will make some lucky person very happy. The lucky Adopter will just need to have a little patience and give him time to acclimate to his surroundings. This is truly a wonderful, loving and very intelligent Rottie Boy who deserves so much better than what he has been dealt. Cylburn is a true LOVE BUG, everyone who meets him falls wildly in love with him, he is a true Sweetheart!!!!!!!!!

Even though he has a disability, this has not seemed to hinder his spirit or ability to live very happily among a others, this is truly an amazing Boy.

STARVING SLED DOGS NEED HELP!!!

Siberian huskies , Siberian/Alaskan husky mixes and Malamutes.

19 dogs were taken from a sled dog racer in Mt.Gillead, Morrow County, Ohio. The owner had left dogs in care of a
relative while he sought work out west. The caretakers stopped feeding the dogs so they are in emaciated condition. Malamute rescue took five dogs. A local group took two (one died) . NWOHIO SIBERIAN HUSKY
RESCUE has stepped in to try to help the rest.
A second young one died.
The very kind dog warden has worked very hard to help us save these dogs. On top of their starved condition all are heartworm positive. One dog is blind and we need help to find a good place for him. Please contact me with ideas. He is very sweet and not dog aggressive. The
only place I have for him is my own sled dog kennel and this is not a good situation for a blind dog. A truly wonderful person, AKC show judge Victoria Jordon Leichner, Former Malamute breeder has a vet who has offered discount heartworm treatment.. Seven-Eight Dogs will be
transported there on Monday. We are in desperate need of donations to cover the vet work on these dogs. After Heartworm treatement they will also need to be spayed and neutered. Email Nancy Wolfe with any questions. Pictures available. Mail to:

Husky Puppies Need Your Prayers and Support

UPDATE!! Sauki and Kashmir are all better and have found their forever homes...thanks to all who donated toward their medical care! If you would like to help others in our care, every bit help! We can't help them without YOUR help!

MaPaw's two newest puppies are having a rough time right now and showing signs of the Dog Flu. Sauki and Kashmir are only 11 weeks old, but they are fighting this infection as best as they can. They are receiving the best vet care available and are under constant supervision. They are on numerous medications and fluid management; we will take whatever steps necessary to bring them back to good health. The little girls are troopers and though
they feel terrible and have labored breathing, they still want to give kisses. Please say a prayer for our girls until they are out of the woods.
Donations are tax deductible and appreciated as the vet bills are quickly mounting.

Sabre Needs Your Help!

Sabre's fate put him in an animal shelter, where the volunteers of Siberian Huskies In Need Everywhere (S.H.I.N.E.) sprung him, and found him to be a perfect gentleman, and lovable companion.

He was the perfect dog, until one night when he suffered Grand Mal seizures and was rushed to the Emergency Vet for treatment.

He was doing wonderfully on medication, treated for other medical issues, and seemed to be back to being a wonderful, loving husky again.

Unfortunately luck ran out, and Sabre once again seized and spent a week at the hospital being tested and treated.

This wonderful soul, this beautiful husky needs your help and generous donations to keep purchasing the medications he needs to stop these seizures, and pay for his emergency care.

As the members of S.H.I.N.E. write: "While S.H.I.N.E. in fact rescued Sabre, he also saved his foster family & volunteers of the organization. This mighty man has renewed our faith in believing in positive thinking, as well as enjoying the gifts that we are given each and every day. Sabre has taught us to live in the moment, for we are uncertain of what tomorrow will hold. This glorious gentleman is still on his road to recovery, but we, with your continued prayers, assistance, and well wishes, will ensure that his ending will in fact befit his fairy tale essence.... it will be happy ever after."

Brandi Update! More Pictures!

Kathryn writes:

I had the absolute pleasure of finally meeting Brandy (our 16 y.o. neglect case) yesterday. She was the star of our booth at a meet and greet! She met everyone with gentle kisses and wags. She was soooooo good with my toddler...went right up and gave her giant kisses and sat perfectly sweetly while allowing little tugs and ear fondling by said toddler.

She spent the bulk of the day sitting in one or another volunteer's lap! No one can believe that she is 16! You can only see it in her eyes and her back legs. After 2 weeks of fattening up, she is still skinny, but she looks great!!!!

Here are some pictures from her foster parents at the event, and she writes:

Brandi is doing great and slowly putting on
weight. I think her favorite part of the day is when she
gets to go to bed with us! Everyone has fallen in love with
her at my office. She was a bit overwhelmed at the meet and
greet and decided that she would be happy as a lap dog.

MEET SANDY!

By: Laura Crocker

Jane & I are currently taking care of Sandy. She belongs to Liz Parrish, who is going to Minnesota to train for three months and cannot take Sandy with her. We are the lucky ones! Sandy was Liz’s main leader last year at the Race to The Sky and Liz was looking forward to training with her towards their 2008 Iditarod goal.

Suddenly, last month, Sandy went totally blind. She was diagnosed with SARDs, Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration. There is little known about the disease and few answers as to why it happens, is it genetic, and most importantly, is it curable? The answer is “NO”, Sandy cannot see shadows or any forms. She is totally blind.

Her first week with us was nerve racking for us and for her. We put her in a strange kennel, with strange smells, sounds and foreign objects. After a few head bangs, she began to get the feel of her new space and managed to miss the obstacles and turn before she hit the fence. Her senses seemed to be more acute as her fur and whiskers came in contact with her surroundings.

The first few nights she spent in the house in an open crate. Once up the stairs she would navigate around corners, down the hall and over any other sleeping dogs to her “bed”. The morning routine was a little more difficult as there are 13 metal stairs to go down to get outside, and Sandy thought that leaping would get her to terra firma more quickly. Needless to say, it would take two of us to walk her down the stairs. After three nights of that, we decided to see how she would do on a stakeout…… No problem! She was right at home with the limits of the chain, loved her house and her neighbor, Shiloh.

Sandy is a five year old Alaskan Husky, a sled dog with lots of energy. We wanted to take her for walks, but when we would hook a leash to her collar she would get very anxious and run back and forth with no caution. Wefound an old walking harness with a ring on the back and tried it out. It was the perfect solution! She could put her head down with no restriction and use her sense of smell to guide her way. We also noticed that her gait had changed and that she would throw her front paws out to check the path ahead of her. We could see her confidence growing day by day.

After walking her around the trails on our property, we hooked her up with a 6 dog team (the older kids) to see how she would do. The minute the other dogs “saw” the harnesses they started getting excited and making a racket….Sandy picked up on the frenzy and let us know that her days on a team were not over.

She was a little tentative at the beginning but did the 1-1/2 mile trail, gees and haws included. This morning Sandy had her second hookup and she not only pulled the whole way, she helped to pull the leaders over into a gee turn. Her enthusiasm and courage are enough to make you cry and her trust in us and the team is mind boggling.

Sandy has a future and a life and we thank Liz and Peg for the chance to share a little of it with her.

Hi y'all....I'm Gramps, and want you to know what a sweetie pie I am.

I've been around the block more times than I care to remember, minded my own business, and really thought I could make it on my own until this nice lady named missmatsui@aol.com came to my rescue.

I never thought someone could care about me ....ever. My choke chain was so tight around my neck, I had bloody diarrhea, vomiting and bloody gums with rotton teeth. I could hardly walk or hear at that point.

NOW, this terrific person has gotten me almost back into shape and even though I am about 10 ( don't look a day over 5)

I want to live and love so much! My rescuer will pay for all my meds, but she has another rescued dog who only wants to hurt me. I've survived this long, but now want to live many more years to come. I am exceptionally sweet and affectionate. If there is anybody out there who wants a sweet snugglepuss of a pooch, than I'm the guy for you.. Please help me..Love and slurps, Gramps.

For more information about Gramps, please contact: missmatsui@aol.com

Please Help the Gimpy German Shepherds

Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue has several abused German Shepherds that they are trying to help, so funds are needed.

Saydee spent her whole life in a kennel, and was beaten by a baseball bat by her former owner, which caused spinal cord injuries. Saydee is safe now, and may need surgery to help her walk. She's come a long way, but still has a lot of hurdles.

Shelby was found emaciated, heartworm and ehrlychia positive and she has very bad hip dysplasia, and yet she still wags her tail and wants to play. Shelby is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, but she will also need to have her hips evaluated and hopefully fixed.

Shep suffers from Degenerative Mylopathy, and unfortunately he's going downhill. Shep is in a loving home, and well cared for both physically, and mentally.

To read their whole stories and updates, and to help these brave pups and others, please donate to the Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue so they can continue to help those who ask for nothing but kindness and love.
