Help Hans Win Food and Help the Rescue that Helped Him

Dawne from Southern Siberian Rescue writes:

Some of you may remember Hans, the 8 y/o boy we pulled out of Franklin County, NC in August of 2006. He was beat up pretty bad with holes in his head and face, teeth hanging vertically in his mouth, emaciated, heartworm positive, etc. etc. We did an Ebay Auction to raise monies for his medical treatment. Well, Hans was adopted about two months ago to a wonderful couple in Raleigh with a 7 y/o silver and white female Siberian. They just adore him and he is the perfect fit for their family.

We are signed up with ProPlan's Rally to Rescue Program and in February they asked the Ambassadors to submit up to two stories on our rescued pets for their Doing More for Rescued Pets Contest. We submitted Hans' story and
they selected him as one of the top 10 finalists. YIPPEE. As a top 10, Southern Siberian Rescue and Hans's adopters win a year of free food for one pet and a 3 day/2 night trip to CA in October for the Rally to Rescue Ambassador Party, where they will announce the winning pet. They have listed the finalists at http://www.rallytorescue.com/more_for_pets_voting.aspx and voting will go through September 30. Please take a moment and vote for Hans. It only
takes a second and costs you nothing. You can submit one vote per email address so if you have multiple email addresses, please vote under each one. Also, feel free to crosspost and pass this email to any and everyone you know!!! The winning pet/rescue will receive $5,000 of free food and we could really use that food.

What a great journey for Hans. It's a true rags to riches story. I can't believe he's a star and going to CA!!!!! What a great adventure for a boy that had such a rough start. There is another Siberian from Husky Haven in the top 10 as well. That's pretty cool.

Please Help Raye

Poor Raye!

Raye is a blind husky who was rescued from a shelter before her time was up... and she didn’t have a whole lot of time being an old, blind cranky husky.

Not only is Raye blind, but her liver has issues, she had masses on both of her legs and on her body, her gums were growing over her teeth from lack of care and all of that discomfort made her very cranky. So cranky that she didn’t get along with any of the dogs in her rescuer’s home.

Enter Colleen, the saint of blind cranky pups. Colleen has saved many MANY gimpy dogs and Raye was the next in line.

Raye flew up to Canada to get herself a brand new foster home, vet treatment for her many bumps and illnesses, and now Colleen and Raye need your help!

Raye is listed under the Animal Rescue Coalitions of Nova Scotia, which is a non profit organization.

If you would like to donate money to Raye’s vet care, you can do so from this page.

Or

Donations can also be sent to the vet hospital care of Raye's new vet:
Dr. Troye MacPherson
Westwood Hills Veterinary Hospital
3650 Hammond Plains Rd.
Upper Tantallon, NS
B3Z 4R3
Tel: 902-826-1933
Fax: 902-826-9466

If donating, please be sure to indicate that the funds are for RAYE! Also ask for a receipt if you need one.

Raye has had a tough life, and now she has a chance to live again, learn what love is, and see from her heart. Can you give Raye a little bit of that love by helping ARC with her vet care?

Help Homeless Gimpies and get some cool stuff!

MaPaw Husky Rescue is having an auction to help gimpy huskies (and normal ones too) get medical treatment and good homes! Read more below and Click here to go to the auction!

We don't ask that often... so when we do, you know we really need
YOUR help to help the dogs! We have had a series of sweet sibes enter
our rescue in need of major medical care.

Jasper continues to improve, but he was so sick from the heartworms
and side effects of the heartworm treatment that he needed an
emergency trip to the specialists at University of Penn where he was
admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and must go back in a few weeks.

11 month old, Dawkin, who turned blind the week before. The owners
could not afford the suggested surgery or evaluation by a canine
opthalmoligist. Dawkin's eyes were changing in appearance daily and
we needed to act immediately. He is now with rescue and has a
series of appointments with the specialists to determine what we can do.

Calllie is a 10 month old epileptic girl who was turned in to MaPaw
because her owners could not afford to take care of her and get her
seizures under control.

Yukon Jack is a very sick senior sibe who was on his own for a long
time, until a kind person found him trapped in a gorge, rescued and
brought him to us. Jack requires continued care to regain his health.
But, he is making great progress.

Help A Humane Society

I happened upon an online newspaper article about the Greenwood Humane Society in Greenwood, South Carolina. The shelter is running out of funds and needs help keeping open until they get more funding.

I took a look at their site and found a wonderful place for homeless dogs and cats (even a deer), and its a shame they have to beg the community for help to stay open and not euthanize animals just to pay their bills.

How about we give them a hand!

You can paypal your donation by going to their Web site and clicking “how you can help”
On the paypal page, add the recipient: humane@simpledsl.com

They are a non-for-profit, so your donation is tax deductible. Even $5.00 is some money to help them pay their bills and keep finding good homes for these animals.

Gimpydogs has already made a contribution to this cause, won’t you donate too?

Pet Food Recalls (more and more)

We highly recommend that you check out this site for updated information on pet food recalls, and FDA alerts.

A vast list of grain products has now been noted by the FDA as being suspect, which may cause even more pet food, and PEOPLE food recalls or warnings.

We are still not satisfied with the FDA’s response or actions (in most cases: lack of action) with this recall, and we urge you to e-mail your Federal representatives to express your frustration and disgust at how the FDA continues to keep important information from the public, investigates China instead of investigating the products currently in the U.S. food chain, and despite hard evidence, is now saying that contaminated poultry and pork products pose no risk to human consumption.

People are feeding these poultry and pork products to their pets as well, since its obvious that the pet food industry is a sham and corrupt. If it harms our pets in pet food, it’ll harm them when they eat contaminated poultry or swine!
