This isn't a death sentence. I know of a German Shepherd Dog who lived several years with good care and died of unrelated causes.
We've been dealing with fistulas with our german shepherd for 5 years now. He's now 10. The medication is insanely expensive and the disease continues to debilitate him. Lately, our dog has started to lose control of his bowels and has acquired that awful smell (like anal glands) that many fistula sufferers get. This is an awful disease. I'm almost at the end of my rope with it.
