Home Needed for Special Needs Pup

The following plea is posted on the behalf of the current owner.  Do not contact gimpydogs if you can help, or want to adopt April, please contact the owner, whose information is listed at the bottom.

April is a 2-1/2 year-old special needs dog. She is one of 3 surviving pups from a litter of seven. She
was rescued when she was 6 weeks old.

April has luxating patellas on both of her back knees and has had 4 surgeries. To help control pain, she will be on medication (inexpensive) for the rest of her life.

I am a college student and unable to take care of April any longer. Our living situation has been very
difficult for April, as there are two other dogs in the household who do not like her. Because of this, it
was demanded that I find another place for April to live. With no place for her to go, I had to board
April, but unfortunately, I can no longer afford the boarding fees.

At the very most, I can only extend boarding another week, until April. 27th.

April must find a permanent or foster home by then!

April is a love bug! She gives nonstop kisses, and loves to sleep under the covers on her back. Her
favorite activities are sun bathing, lounging around the house and showing off her toys to whoever is
around! She is fully house and crate trained, and walks well on a leash.

She has worked with special needs children while training to be a therapy dog (she is not certified).
April would do best as an only dog.

New Warning For Dog Owners

As some of you may have heard, for quite some time there has been a warning about the sugar additive Xylitol being poisonous to dogs. This is a very true warning and numerous, heartbreaking stories of dogs getting into sugar free gums or other sweets that contain Xylitol and dying.

This weekend I had the opportunity to go to Dairy Queen and partake of a very tasty Dilly Bar. I was somewhat shocked to read that eating too many Dilly Bars could have a laxative effect and decided to do a little research as to why this warning was on a Dilly Bar.

One of the ingredients of a Dilly Bar is “sugar alcohol”. Digging further, I discovered that “sugar alcohol” is a code word for a list of various artificial sweeteners INCLUDING Xylitol!

I know a LOT of dog owners who go to various places and get ice cream for their dogs. Most of them know of the dangers of chocolate (theobromine poisoning) but think nothing of getting their pooch pal a vanilla cone to chow down on... but are they now risking Xylitol poisoning by not know the EXACT ingredients of their ice cream cone?

The U.S. is constantly shifting toward more “healthy” lifestyles and battling obesity, but at what price to our dogs and actually to ourselves when it comes to adding ingredients that aren’t all natural and have (or could have, in the case of our four footed friends) adverse to deadly consequences.

Be aware of the ingredients and what they actually mean to your pet before feeding it to them... it could be a matter of life and death.
