Fun Events to Benefit NORSLED

Northern California Sled Dog Rescue (NORSLED) is a fantastic rescue that doesn't just pick the healthy to foster, they pull even the most desperate gimpy dogs, rehabilitates them, and finds them loving homes.

Gimpy Dogs is pleased to call NORSLED a friend and want to let you know about some fundraisers they are having to help them save more dogs in need.

The first on 17 June 2011 is a wine tasting, dinner, and presentation by Iditarod musher Karen Ramstead
To purchase advance tickets, go to the NORSLED Website and scroll down to the "An Evening with Karen Ramstead".  You can also download the flyer and get more information.

The second event is a fun match on 19 June 2011 at the Oak Hill Park in Danville.  Karen Ramstead will be judging, but even if you don't want to enter the match, there will be plenty of fun activities for you and your dog in the beautiful park.  There will be carting demonstrations and rescue booths.

Go to the NORSLED site for the entry form and more information!

Alabama Rescue Needs Your Help

While we normally limit posts to helping Gimpy Dogs, we're making an exception for this case.

As you all know, tornadoes devastated several states, Alabama was hit the hardest.  There are a lot of good agencies down there helping, but as a member of the dog community we all know that sometimes the animals are the last to get help.

I received a forwarded e-mail from a friend in regard to a foster home for Smiling Pitbull Rescue.  This foster home was in the path of the tornado and was destroyed with all of the foster dogs inside.  Luckily all but 3 were recovered safe, but she has lost everything.  Her first and only concern was for the safety of her dogs.  The link above is to the video that was taking right after the tornado and while they were trying to recover the foster dogs.

Rescues and shelters in the area are in desperate need of volunteers, foster homes, and donations.  As people lose their homes, they have no place to keep their pets, so we need to step up as a community and help any way we can to help those who lost everything.

If you would like to make a donation to the rescue, please use this link to their homepage, the donate link is at the bottom.  They are a 501c3 rescue, so all donations are tax deductible.

If you would like to help Shannon, the foster home that lost everything she had, the rescue is asking for donations of Walmart cards so that she can start replacing some of her belongings.  The Walmart card is not tax deductible, but giving a little to a woman that put her own life ahead of her foster dogs is worth it.

Please send the Walmart gift cards to:
