We are saddened to report that Hero passed away after his surgery due to complications. Rest in Peace little pup.
This is little Hero. Just before Christmas, he was dumped at a shelter because he was having seizures.
Long story short (for the longer version you can visit The Five Sibes blog or for a daily status, you can visit Siberian Nation's Blog).
Hero is in the care of Ally's Rescued Siberian Angels rescue who is doing everything they can to give this little pup a chance at life.
An MRI and other tests have concluded that Hero has a pocket of fluid on the brain that is causing his seizures, aggression, and vision problems. They can't draw the fluid out because it will cause brain damage, so they need to surgically insert a shunt to allow the fluid to naturally drain out of his brain. The life-saving surgery will cost between $7,000 - $9,000, and a kind benefactor has already donated a large sum as a deposit to perform the procedure, but the rescue will need to pay off the rest of the funds regardless of the outcome.
Best case scenario, the procedure will relieve the pressure in little Hero's brain and he will be a normal little puppy. The seizures may stop, he may regain sight in his one eye, and he may live a normal, happy, loved life.
We'd like to see him get that chance.
Hero's story has gone around the world and he even has his own super-HERO likeness drawn by Cameo Anderson, who created a cool poster they are using as fundraising through Lily's Pad Pet Supplies for $25.
