Update 4/6/12
Johnny's mom informed me that not only did Johnny get his cart, but that it fit like a glove. He was so excited, he ran next door to his "grandmom's" house to show it to her.
Johnny's mom will be posting a blog update on Johnny's new cart as soon as she can. She has been dealing with health issues in her family.
Update 3/8/12
In what had to be the fastest time ever to achieve a goal, 12 wonderful people made our goal of getting Johnny his cart and also helping a rescue dog in need!
We are working with Jessica, Johnny "mom", and the good people at Eddie's Wheels to get them the $505 so Johnny will get his cart!
Here is a link with a video that Johnny posted
Thank ALL OF YOU!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You first met Johnny when I interviewed his "mom" in the post "Here's Johnny!"
I fell in love with this cutie and have been following his exploits. Jessica and I were working with Eddie's Wheels to get him a loaner cart until he stopped growing, but it just didn't work out. Between Johnny's special needs and the availability of carts, he had to make do with his specially made PVC cart until now.
Johnny is full grown and has outgrown his hand-made cart and needs a strong, long-lasting professional cart.
The family already has a trust set up with his vet in case he'll need spine or leg surgery later in his life, and can't afford the $405 for Johnny's specialized cart plus shipping.
I can't let this little sweetheart go without a cart, so I'm making a big exception and have set up a ChipIn to my account. Normally Gimpy Dogs only donates straight to Rescues, Vets, or 501c3 charitable organizations, but Johnny is very special to me and a lot of other people because he has overcome what would have been certain death, and because Jessica's family opened up their home and their hearts to care for him even though his future looked grim, and his medical bills would be astronomical.
Johnny has proven that even if life deals you a bad hand, you make the best of it and enjoy what you have.
ALL funds will be given to Eddie's Wheels for the cost of Johnny's new cart, and the rest to use to help defray the cost of a cart to a dog in rescue that needs it, which is why the ChipIn amount is for more than Johnny needs.
Eddie's has been donating carts to rescues to help paralyzed or injured dogs get a chance at the same kind of life that Johnny now has. Without their support to the rescue community these special needs dogs would have no chance to enjoy a walk in the park, or finding a new home.
Will you please donate to Johnny's Cart Fund and also help others get the same good life that he found.
Share this post, and share the joy of helping Johnny and others find the good life
